Who we are

Find Cars For Sale (findcarsforsale.co.uk) is a car-buying and car-selling enquiry platform. We connect people looking to buy or sell a vehicle with motor dealers and vehicle-buying businesses who may be able to help. We do not hold vehicle stock ourselves, and this policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use our site.

What personal data we collect

We collect personal data when you submit a form on our site, including:

• Find a Car enquiries — your name, email address, phone number, postcode, and details about the vehicle you're looking for (type, make, model, budget, and other requirements).
• Sell My Car enquiries — your name, email address, phone number, postcode, and details about the vehicle you're selling (registration, mileage, make, model, condition, and other details), plus any photos of the vehicle you choose to upload.
• Contact form submissions — your name, email address, the reason for contacting us, and your message.
• Dealer applications — business and contact details for motor businesses applying to receive enquiries through our platform.
• Cars for Sale listings — your name, email address, phone number, whether you are a private seller or a motor business, postcode or location, details about the vehicle you are listing, and any photos you choose to upload.
• Cars Wanted requests — your name, email address, phone number, postcode or location, and details of the vehicle you are looking for.
• Marketplace messages — if you contact a seller or respond to a car-wanted request, we collect your name, email address, and the message content so we can forward it to the relevant listing or request owner.
• Attribution data — when you first visit our site, we store the landing page, referrer, and any UTM campaign parameters in a first-party cookie, so we can understand which pages and campaigns generate enquiries. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Why we collect it, and our lawful basis

We only collect the data we need to provide our service. Specifically:

• We process enquiry details (buying, selling, and contact form data) to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant and with your permission, to pass your details to selected motor dealers or vehicle-buying businesses who may be able to help. This is necessary to provide the service you have asked for, and is also in our legitimate interest in operating an enquiry-matching platform.
• We process Cars for Sale and Cars Wanted submissions to review, publish, and display them on the marketplace, and to forward messages between interested parties when they use "Contact Seller" or "I Have a Suitable Car". This is necessary to provide the marketplace service you have asked to use.
• Where you tick the marketing checkbox to receive occasional car-related offers, guides, and updates, we rely on your consent. This is always optional and unchecked by default — you can withdraw it at any time.
• We use attribution data (landing page, referrer, and UTM parameters) on a legitimate interest basis, to understand which channels and pages are effective, so we can improve the service.

How we share your data

Where you submit a buying or selling enquiry, and with your consent, we share the relevant details with a selection of motor dealers or vehicle-buying businesses so they can respond to you directly. We only share what is necessary for them to assess and respond to your enquiry.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with unrelated third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may also share data with service providers who help us run the platform (for example, our hosting and database providers), who are only permitted to process it on our instructions.

If you publish a Cars for Sale listing or a Cars Wanted request, the vehicle details you provide (and any photos) are shown publicly on the site — but your email address and phone number are never displayed on the public page. When another user contacts you through the site, we email your message to you directly; we do not share your contact details with them unless you choose to reply and include them yourself.

How long we keep your data

We keep enquiry data for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the enquiry, and for a limited period afterwards for record-keeping purposes — typically no longer than 24 months, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we are required to keep it for longer to meet a legal obligation. If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so unless we have a legitimate reason to retain it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Ask us to erase your data, in certain circumstances.
• Ask us to restrict how we use your data, in certain circumstances.
• Object to us processing your data on the basis of legitimate interest.
• Request that your data be provided to you, or another organisation, in a portable format.

How your data is stored and protected

Your data is stored in a secure, access-controlled database with row-level security enabled. Only server-side systems using a restricted service key can read or write enquiry data — there is no public API that exposes it. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse, or unauthorised access.

Children's data

Our service is intended for adults and is not directed at, or intended for use by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if the way we collect or use data changes. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do.
